2008-09-20 Chronicles of Maura - New York Central Park

Maura's mom decided that it was about time that they visit the birthplace of Maura - FAO Schwarz. Actually, Maura came from the Houston store. But never mind that. Maura should be visiting the flagship birthplace. Ooh she is very excited. Even the doorman recognizes her and salutes her as she approaches.

Look at that. I wonder if we will see others just like Maura? It would be nice for Maura to have more friends like herself. Being around people too much can't be very healthy.

Look at all the toys. Where to begin?

Maura sees all these little animals looking out with puppy-dog eyes, hoping to be adopted!

Maura doesn't find any ducks. However she does see other farm animals that she feels very comfortable around. But then she motions to her mom that she doesn't want to adopt one... why share attention with a piglet when she can have all the attention!

This looks interesting. A huge bison that costs $1000. Unfortunately, it would take up half of her mom's apartment.

These animals look very realistic. Too bad they are only stuffed animals. Otherwise they might be a bit more interesting.

The same goes for this fellow.

Maura scans the showroom floor, but does not spot any other ducks doing any shopping. Maybe she'll be luckier some other day.

Next, Maura and her mom are off to Central Park. Maura notices big rocks protruding from the ground.

She climbs up the top of one of the rocks and surveys all the people below.

Interesting... these rocks look like they have scratch marks... I wonder where they could come from?

Maura again surveys the surroundings before heading up Central Park.

She likes the wide paths and open space in Central Park. Now this is a great place to take your duck friends and family.

Lawns are easy on duck webbed feet, unlike the concrete and asphalt in other parts of the city.

This looks vaguely familiar. Maura notes that this field looks like the location for a scene from 13 Going on 30. That is one of Maura's favorite movies.

This is more like it. A duck swimming in a pond is a happy duck.

I wish there were other ducks around. Maybe they went off to a duck convention or something.

Maura looks at all these silly people swinging sticks around and hitting yellowish green balls around. Her mom explains that this is "Tennis." Maura has never heard of such a thing... She explains that most of the time, people are hitting balls into the net, going to the net to pick up the balls, and then repeating over and over!
Maura all of a sudden has an epiphany. She knows where these markings came from. But she is keeping the answer from her mom... Maybe you know where they came from!
